Creative Writing 101

Celebrating a well told story

Fiction is perhaps the purest form of storytelling. A tale is told with only words and the reader’s imagination. From these things, a work of fiction can sail across the world in pursuit of a whale or zero-in on a few minutes in line at the local bank, luring the reader into a story that reads true.

To do it well, however, requires skills. In our workshop, you will learn how to paint your ideas with words that make them jump out of the page, how to fashion characters to “smell” true, how to time your plot to never miss an appointment with your readers, how to always be at the right place to meet your unique point of view.

In the workshop, we will help you pave the way to that magic castle where those skills live, and offer you the ladder to climb to the top of the castle and open the trove of skills and ideas that can make a description tell the picture, the dialogue get a voice, the setting to feel.

You will be exposed to works of others, understand how the writers that “do” it to you, did it, and you will also learn how and where to publish your work.

Whether you seek to write essays or poetry,  short stories or novels, traditional or experimental, comic or tragic, we'll show you how to turn your ideas into stories that people will be eager to read.
